Ghaziabad: The prime accused in the murder of a 22-year-old youth who was called to a birthday party and stabbed to death near Crossings Republik was arrested on Friday after a gunfight.Gaurav Sharma (24), a resident of Shanti Nagar, attempted to shoot police personnel while they were trying to recover the murder weapon and suffered a bullet injury in the leg in retaliatory firing. He has been admitted to MMG Hospital and doctors said his condition is stable. On Thursday, Gaurav, along with Dev, Hari and three others, called Mohit, their 22-year-old friend, to Dev’s birthday party. There, they forced Mohit to drink alcohol and stabbed him, allegedly because of a dispute that took place between them two weeks ago.Mohit’s family has said his friends had earlier taken him to Rajasthan’s Khatushyam town and Haridwar and planned to kill him there. However, they could not succeed because Mohit had called his family and let them know about their alleged intentions beforehand. According to DCP (City) Dhawal Jaiswal, police asked him where he had hidden the knife used in the murder. Gaurav said he had dumped the weapon near some bushes on Jal Plant Road. “Gaurav had also hidden a country-made pistol with the knife near the bushes. While retrieving the knife, he also brought out the pistol and started shooting at the team,” he said. However, police managed to evade the shots while firing back in self-defence. They then overpowered him and took him to a hospital to treat the bullet injury he sustained during the gunfight.“Questioning in under way and we are trying to trace the other persons accused in the case,” he said.
