Kolkata: In a swift response, officers from Thakurpukur Police Station have arrested a suspect and retrieved stolen jewelry within hours of a snatching incident at Sakher Bazar Super Market on Monday morning.The victim, Shakti Ghosh (72) from Motilal Gupta Road, was targeted around 11.30 am on Monday while entering Gate 1 of the crowded market. According to the complaint filed by Ghosh, she had finished buying fruit and was moving toward the egg vendors’ section when an unidentified youth approached from behind, grabbed her neck, and snapped off her gold chain weighing approximately 10 g. The incident left her shocked and mildly injured.As soon as the accused snatched the chain, the victim began shouting for help. But the perpetrator managed to flee. Following her written statement lodged at the local police station, cops tracked the suspect’s movements to Haridevpur.Accused Bhulu Das, a resident of Haridevpur, was eventually nabbed and the gold chain was recovered. Das is in police custody as cops probe whether he was involved in similar snatching incidents across the southwest suburb corridor during the pre-festival shopping season.
