Chennai: A day after the murder of a 55-year-old woman in Pulicat, Tiruvallur, police have arrested a man who lived in the same locality, for murdering her and robbing her jewellery to fund his pregnant wife’s hospital expenses.On Monday, Thiruppalaivanam police were alerted after the victim’s husband found her dead at their home near the old bus stand in Pulicat. The victim, R Vanaja, sold idli batter from home, while her husband Radhakrishnan ran a provision store nearby.Police said Vanaja had returned home from her husband’s shop that morning. In the afternoon, when she did not answer his calls, Radhakrishnan went home and found her lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds on her neck .The body was sent to Ponneri Government Hospital for postmortem. B Yugendar alias Abdul Rahman, 29, was arrested after he was found moving suspiciously in the area. Investigators said Yugendar entered Vanaja’s house on the pretext of buying batter and murdered her.A native of Uthukottai, Yugendar had married a woman from Pulicat and settled there four years ago. Police said he was facing financial difficulties ahead of his wife’s delivery and had planned the murder to rob Vanaja. Police recovered an eight-sovereign thaali chain, three-sovereign bangles, a one-sovereign earring and a ring from him.
