Silchar: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her son in Cachar district on Tuesday.The incident occurred around 2 pm at Bhatgram village under Kalain police station. The victim was identified as Zarina Begum and the accused as her 40-year-old son, Altaf Hussain.Police said Altaf was allegedly pressuring his mother to sell the family’s property. Investigators suspect the dispute led to the attack.According to sources, Altaf allegedly attacked Zarina with a sharp weapon inside their house while other family members were away. She died on the spot.After learning about the incident, residents rushed to the house and tried to overpower Altaf. During the commotion, he allegedly attacked another woman, Alimun Nessa, seriously injuring her. She was admitted to a nearby hospital.Residents eventually restrained Altaf and handed him over to police.Kalain police recovered Zarina’s body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. A case has been registered.Police arrested Altaf and began questioning him. Officers said preliminary findings indicated a property dispute, but the precise motive and sequence of events would be established after a detailed investigation.
