Ludhiana: A local court has sentenced a drug peddler to 12-year rigorous imprisonment for possession of 9,440 intoxicant capsules. Judge (special court) Harvinder Singh also imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh on the convict and in default of payment of fine, he will have to further undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of one year.On April 5, 2019, the Sadar Khanna police had booked 42-year-old Munish Kumar of Haibowal Kalan and 32-year-old Surinder Singh of the same area under the NDPS Act for possession of intoxicant capsules.As per the prosecution, on the said date, SI Bakshish Singh along with other police officials were going from Bhadla village to Khanna in connection with patrolling and checking of suspected persons. When the police reached under the overbridge on GT Road, Alaur, they saw two persons holding a bag, who threw the bag and tried to run on seeing the cops. On suspicion, they were apprehended. Intoxicant capsules came out from the said bag, lying scattered there. Police later arrested the accused and presented chargesheet against them in the court after completing investigation into the matter.During the pendency of the case, accused Munish Kumar died and on receipt of death report, proceedings against him were abated.
