Gurgaon: A 25-year-old man died on Monday night allegedly after he was run over by a canter on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway near Rimjhim Dhaba in Sector 81. The man, Jitendra Singh, had got down from a truck to check one of its tyres when the accident occurred.According to a complaint filed by Jitendra’s brother Narendra Kumar, the two were travelling in a truck carrying gravel from Rajpura Patan to Faridabad on Sept 14. Narendra, 29, was driving while Jitendra, who worked as an accountant with the same transport company, was accompanying him.When they reached near Rimjhim Dhaba around 10.30pm, Narendra heard a noise from a tyre and stopped the truck on the roadside. He asked Jitendra to check it. Jitendra got down and moved towards the rear of the truck, checking the tyre from the driver’s side.This was when a canter allegedly approached from behind at high speed and hit the parked truck. It subsequently hit Jitendra, who fell on the road, before the canter allegedly ran over him, the complaint states. The driver fled from the spot. Narendra told police that he also lost consciousness after the collision.Passersby informed police about the accident, following which officers reached the spot. “Police found Jitendra lying dead on the road. The two vehicles involved in the collision were found parked a little ahead. The canter’s front windshield was broken and its left side was damaged,” an officer said.Jitendra’s body was sent to the local mortuary for post-mortem. Police informed his family and took both vehicles into custody.On Sept 15, Narendra submitted his complaint, following which a case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kherki Daula police station.
