Gorakhpur: A constable posted at Pipraich police station was suspended after a 32-year-old man alleged he was assaulted inside the police station following a family dispute. A departmental inquiry was ordered into the incident.According to police, Abdul Rahim, resident of Mahmoodabad alias Mogalpura, got into an argument with his brother-in-law, Shah Rukh, while consuming alcohol, on Monday night. As the dispute escalated, Shah Rukh dialed the emergency helpline and a police team brought both men to the police station for counselling.Family members alleged that after being taken to the police station, Abdul Rahim and Shah Rukh were beaten by police personnel. They claimed Abdul Rahim sustained serious injuries and was sent home when his condition deteriorated. On Tuesday morning, he was taken to a community health centre and subsequently referred to BRD Medical College’s Nehru Hospital for treatment. Shah Rukh is also under treatment at the district hospital.CO Chauri Chaura Kundan Singh said inquiry was conducted and it was found that constable Ajay Kumar Yadav, who was on night duty at the station, was counselling Abdul Rahim and another party in connection with a family dispute. An altercation took place, and the constable was found to have behaved improperly. “The constable has been suspended with immediate effect and adepartmental inquiry has been initiated against him,” the CO said.
