Jaipur: University Maharaja College, the 182-year-old institution, got its first woman principal Tuesday as Prof Sarina Kalia took charge. Kalia took over as the 58th principal of the college.Prof Kalia has been associated with Maharaja and Maharani Colleges for decades and has previously served as the vice-principal of both colleges. She has also twice held the position of Dean of Student Welfare and is popular among students, especially for the expansion of cultural activities in the university.As the new head of Maharaja College, Prof Kalia said that her top priorities will be to ensure that regular classes take place in the college along with addressing issues such as infrastructure development, research and the coordination of cultural programmes.On Aug 9, former principal of Maharaja College and a senior faculty member of the Botany department, Prof GP Singh, passed away after a prolonged illness.
