Kolkata: A low pressure area brewing over the Bay of Bengal is likely to keep the rainy days going in the next few days. Met officials said while this system will impact parts of Odisha the most, Kolkata and other parts of south Bengal will also get its share of light to moderate rain. With more rain expected meteorologists said temperature will continue to hover around the normal or slightly below normal for now.“We are expecting this low pressure area to develop by Saturday morning. Hence, Kolkata and some south Bengal districts will continue to get light to moderate rain with the possibility of some intense showers,” said HR Biswas, head at Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata.According to an IMD bulletin there is an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. “Under its influence, a low pressure area may form over the coastal areas of Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours,” said the bulletin issued on Friday.Few spells of light rain and cloud cover for most part of the day ensured that the mercury remained below 30°C for the second consecutive day. Alipore recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6°C on Friday, 3.4 notches down the normal mark while the minimum temperature at 26.2°C was also slightly below normal.The monsoon trough passing through Ganganagar, Delhi, Hamirpur, Ranchi, Digha and thence south-eastwards East-central Bay of Bengal, along with the low pressure area may cause rain havoc in districts like South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore. “While the frequency and intensity of rain may start coming down by Sunday, Kolkata and rest of south Bengal may get some amount of rain daily or on alternate days in the next week,” added Biswas.
