Kolkata: The appearance of an image of Lord Krishna accompanied by a religious-philosophical message on the official website of the Bengal legislative assembly triggered a political controversy, with Trinamool MLA Kunal Ghosh questioning whether imagery associated with a particular faith should feature on a govt institution’s digital platform.Visitors to the website initially found, alongside photographs of CM Suvendu Adhikari and Speaker Rathindra Bose, an image of Lord Krishna with a message on the harmful effects of anger. “Anger is one of the weaknesses of human beings which always takes them away from their better selves. It makes them more confused about the important aspects of life,” the message read.The content was subsequently changed, with the Krishna image and message replaced by words of Sri Ramakrishna on how different paths lead to One (the supreme).Ghosh said, “I too am a devotee of Krishna. But the question is whether deities associated with a particular religion can be displayed in this manner at a govt institution like the assembly.”State industries minister Tapas Roy, however, defended the message. “Lord Krishna is God. We repeat and believe in the things he said and try to make them guiding principles in our lives. Anger is indeed harmful,” Roy said.There was no immediate response from the Speaker on the issue or the subsequent change.
