Loo-like conditions, dry winds to lash Lucknow as temperatures rise again

Lucknow: Hot conditions will intensify, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a rise in mercury levels and the prevalence of strong dry winds across the state, including Lucknow, for the next few days.In Lucknow, the hot and humid conditions continued on Tuesday. The maximum temperature was 40.1 degrees Celsius. However, high humidity levels made it feel like 43 degrees. Night was also warm, with the minimum temperature 27.1 degrees Celsius.The met department forecast stated hot, dry winds will lash the city on Wednesday. Sky will be clear, with the maximum and minimum temperatures around 42 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively.Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), said, “The combination of strong solar radiation and moisture in the air increased heat and humidity, making temperatures feel several degrees higher than the actual reading. Such conditions will continue for the next few days.”“After a brief respite from intense heat, temperatures have begun rising again across Uttar Pradesh. Several districts are likely to experience hot and dry weather over the next few days, with isolated areas expected to witness loo-like conditions,” he added.BOXPrayagraj hottest in the countryLucknow: As intense heat gripped eastern Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj emerged as the hottest city in the country on Tuesday by recording a maximum temperature of around 44 degrees Celsius, nearly 5.1 degrees Celsius above normal. Varanasi ranked as the second hottest city nationwide, with the mercury hovering around 43 degrees Celsius, about 4.9 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average. The sharp rise in temperatures reflected the return of severe heatwave conditions across the region. Met officials said there will be no respite from the hot conditions in the next four to five days. However, occasional thunderstorms accompanied by light showers or scattered rainfall may occur in isolated areas.
