Lucknow: A 28-year-old man from Lucknow, allegedly posing as a govt officer and claiming to be an officer on special duty (OSD) at the Lucknow Secretariat, was arrested during a vehicle-checking drive in Basti late Wednesday, police said.The accused was identified as Mohsin Khan, currently residing in Darulshafa in Hazratganj.According to police, a joint team of Kotwali and traffic police apprehended him during a checking drive in the Badeban outpost area.Police said the vehicle he was travelling in displayed the words ‘Uttar Pradesh Government’ along with a govt-style emblem and had a red-and-blue beacon installed on its roof.During questioning, Khan produced a visiting card carrying the OSD designation in an attempt to establish his identity, police said.However, verification revealed that his claim of being a govt officer was false.Investigators suspect that Khan travelled across different districts and states while posing as a govt officer. Police said he allegedly attempted to avail VIP privileges at toll plazas by claiming to be a govt official and sought exemption from toll payments.The driver, Rajesh Yadav, who was present in the vehicle, was also detained for questioning. Police said he was released after verification and served with a notice directing him to cooperate with the investigation.A case has been registered against Mohsin at Kotwali police station and further legal proceedings are underway.
