Livestock owners in Wokha told to report animal deaths within 24hrs to claim aid

Dimapur: The Wokha district administration on Thursday asked livestock owners to report the death of animals due to any disaster within 24 hours to the nearest veterinary centre or administrative authority to claim relief under the state disaster response fund (SDRF). Outlining the guidelines for reporting and notifying livestock deaths to claim relief, Wokha DC K Mhathung Tsanglao, in a circular, said the death of animals due to disaster must be reported within 24 hours to the authorities concerned for further action.It said upon receiving the report, the district veterinary officer or field staff will conduct spot verification and assess the situation within three days of the incident.As per the guidelines, geo-tagged photographs of the entire carcass, taken by the owner, must be submitted to the concerned authority and a post-mortem examination should be conducted by a qualified veterinarian wherever possible.The circular said a death certificate must be issued by the district veterinary officer after spot verification and confirmation of the cause of death due to disaster.Further, the district administration asked the chief veterinary officers to maintain proper records of disaster documentation, submit them to the District Disaster Management Authority, and endorse a copy to the directorate for record.The circular emphasised strict adherence to these procedures to ensure timely relief measures and accurate documentation of livestock losses in the district.
