Kolkata: The state urban development & municipal affairs dept is gearing up to impose fines for littering and spitting on the road, night parking charge for parking cars on the sides of roads and introduce vending machines in markets for plastic alternative carry bags Sept 1 onwards.State UD&MA dept minister Agnimitra Paul held a meeting with KMC, HMC and BMC officials along with the officers of the three commissionerate areas at Nabanna on Saturday to take stock of the preparations. “The parking zones and no-parking zones are being identified. We are urging citizens not to resort to illegal parking and not to park motorcycles on pavements,” Paul said.Paul said that a parking app is set to be introduced where motorists will be able to identify parking slots in the city. “The CM will launch the app soon,” Paul added.The minister specially mentioned the area of Salt Lake where road side parking in front of houses has been noticed. “Why will the roads be jammed if there is parking space within the premises of one’s house. We will introduce night parking charge and fines will be imposed ,” Paul said.
