LIT celebrates Baisakhi with draw of lots for 179 Atal Apartment flats

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) on Tuesday organised a draw of lots for the remaining 179 flats under the Atal Apartment scheme on the occasion of Baisakhi. Local bodies minister Sanjeev Arora participated in the draw, held at Nehru Sidhant Kendra, where LIT chairman Tarsem Bhinder assured successful allottees that possession of the flats would be handed over by the end of this year.Bhinder said construction work at the project site in Karnail Singh Nagar on Pakhowal Road was progressing at a fast pace. He added that the Trust had received 571 applications for 43 high-income group (HIG) flats and 963 applications for 136 middle-income group (MIG) flats. The list of applicants was pasted at the entrance of the venue ahead of the draw.As the draw was held on a public holiday, a large number of applicants turned up along with their family members. Minister Arora announced the first winner in the MIG category, after which other attendees were invited to pick winners through the draw of lots. Bhinder said the event received a good public response.Apart from the Atal Apartment scheme, the LIT is preparing to launch new one-bedroom and two-bedroom flat projects for people belonging to the low-income group. Provision would also be made for commercial properties to cater to businesses. Speaking on the occasion, Arora said that although LIT had handed over all its colonies to the municipal corporation for maintenance, the Trust would still have to execute development works worth Rs 35 crore. He assured applicants who did not figure in the draw that the government would roll out more such housing schemes in the coming days.The first draw for 576 flats under the Atal Apartment scheme had been conducted in June 2022. Construction work began in December 2024. While the original deadline for completion was estimated to be October 2026, officials said efforts were being made to hand over possession by November-December.MSID:: 130258172 413 |
