Palghar: The Palghar State Excise Department has busted an alleged liquor smuggling operation on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway, seizing Foreign Liquor and beer worth Rs 22.93 lakh that was allegedly being transported from Daman for illegal sale in Maharashtra.Acting on a tip-off, a flying squad of the State Excise Department laid a trap near Gorathan village in the Khambala area of Jawhar taluka. A suspected tempo was intercepted and searched.Officials found 162 boxes containing IMFL and beer valued at Rs 22.93 lakh inside the vehicle. According to the excise department, the consignment had been brought from Daman and was being transported into Maharashtra without the required permission.The tempo driver, Harpreet Singh (41), has been booked. Further investigation is underway, State Excise Superintendent Ganesh Bargaje said.
