Rajkot: A lion cub was rescued unhurt after it accidentally fell into a deep well inside a residential society in the heart of Junagadh city early on Tuesday morning.The incident occurred around 5 am in Vanand Society, a residential neighbourhood in Junagadh, when residents spotted the cub trapped in the well.A rescue team from the Dungar south range of the Junagadh forest division pulled the cub out within an hour of being alerted. According to forest officials, a group of three lion cubs was moving through the area when one of them accidentally slipped into the well.“The cub was safely rescued by 6 am and did not suffer any injuries,” said Akshay Joshi, deputy conservator of forests, Junagadh.The cub has been placed under veterinary observation and is undergoing a thorough health check-up. Forest officials said that once it is declared fit, the cub will be released back into the wild and reunited with its mother in its natural habitat.Junagadh, the home to Gir National Park, witnesses frequent movement of lions on its roads.
