Amritsar: As a part of a statewide exercise, the Amritsar district administration has announced an air raid preparedness drill on Friday at 8pm. To be held at the Dussehra Ground in Ranjit Avenue, the drill aims to train residents on safety protocols and emergency response during potential aerial threats.Additional deputy commissioner Rohit Gupta has urged residents, especially those in Ranjit Avenue, to cooperate with a brief 10-minute blackout. The move comes a year after the Pahalgam terror attack, which triggered Operation Sindoor. During that period, border districts like Amritsar faced heightened security, including the use of emergency sirens and blackouts for the first time in decades. While the administration has issued an advance notice to keep the public informed, the announcement has revived memories of last year’s tension involving drones and missiles. Residents have welcomed the drill but suggested that such exercises should be regular.Locals also highlighted the need for a better public communication system. Some residents suggested installing a citywide public announcement system to prevent the confusion experienced last year. MSID:: 130468779 413 |
