5 saved from drowning over long weekend

Panaji: Five people were rescued from drowning by Drishti Marine lifesavers off Goa’s beaches over the long holiday weekend, officials said on Monday.Out of them, three hailed from Pune. The trio from Pune included a 44-year-old woman and a female teenager, who were swimming in the Baga creek when a large wave made it difficult for them to return to the shore.Lifesavers Siddesh Bhosle and Achchini Pamegam saved them.Along the coast at Sinquerim beach, lifeguards rescued a 30-year-old man, who was pulled into deep water by a rip current.A 25-year-old man from Karnataka, who was swimming along with a group of 20-25 tourists at Agonda beach, was pulled out to sea. Unable to float, he signalled for help.Lifesaver Kapil Velip spotted him, rushed into the water using a rescue tube, and brought him safely back to the shore, officials added.
