Navi Mumbai: A leopard was sighted at Matheran’s Honeymoon Point on Monday night. The big cat was spotted on CCTV camera footage at a store, spreading panic among the locals. CCTV footage showed the leopard roaming around the area at night and attacking a sleeping stray dog, which escaped before being hurt. Sarita Musale, senior inspector of Mathern police station, said, “The leopard was spotted in the night hours near Honeymoon Point, where there are no hotels and resorts, as the tourists stay far away on the hilltop. Though the locals have demanded that the forest department immediately increase patrolling during night hours and take necessary preventive measures, the forest department has already put up banners on the hill station warning the tourists not to step out in the night hours after a leopard with cubs was sighted recently during daytime in the ghat section by cab drivers ferrying tourists from Neral towards Matheran and tourists had captured them on their phones as well.
