New Delhi: Twenty-four waterlogging hotspots identified following this monsoon’s first downpour last week came under the scanner at a recent review meeting between Delhi Traffic Police and multiple civic and other govt agencies.At least eight of the locations are old hotspots that figured in last year’s list, suggesting that pre-monsoon measures this year have yet to fix some of Delhi‘s most persistent problem areas.The multi-agency coordination meeting was held under the chairmanship of special commissioner of police (traffic) Manish Agarwal to review progress in mitigating congestion points, assess monsoon preparedness and evaluate traffic management measures undertaken by traffic police.It was attended by senior traffic cops and officials from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Delhi transport department, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited.Officials claimed traffic movement remained largely under control despite last week’s heavy showers. However, TOI reported that official claims of monsoon preparedness rang hollow, with waterlogged roads, inundated school premises and flooded stretches in areas like Rajghat, Badarpur and several other parts of Delhi continuing to disrupt life long after the rain stopped.The review revealed 24 locations where waterlogging was reported. They include Ulan Batar Marg near NSG Red Light, Rani Jhansi Road at DCM Chowk, LM Bundh Road near the DM Office in Shastri Nagar, G D Birla Marg at Okhla Underpass, GTK Road near Jahangirpuri Metro Station, NH-24/Delhi-Meerut Expressway near Murga Mandi in Ghazipur, NH-44 from Mukarba Chowk to Sindhu Border, SSN Marg near Phool Mandi, Mandi Road at Gadaipur Chowki, MB Road at Ratiya Marg, MB Road near Batra Hospital, MB Road at Jamia Hamdard T-Point, MB Road from Khanpur T-Point to Hamdard T-Point on both carriageways, Ring Road near Nizamuddin Khatta, MB Road at Pul Prahladpur Underpass, Ring Road under Iron Bridge, Patparganj Road at Pandav Nagar Underpass near Mother Dairy, Mother Teresa Crescent Marg from GKP to TMR, Panchsheel Marg near Australian embassy, Satya Marg from Shanti Path to Satya Marg Roundabout, NH-48 near Pillars 156 to 160, NH-48 near Satbir Petrol Pump, Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road near Kapashera police station and Mata Deen Yadav Marg in front of Ashoka Country Resort.A comparison with last year’s list of 47 waterlogging hotspots shows that several vulnerable stretches continue to remain on the radar. At least eight of the 24 locations were mentioned on the 2025 list.During the meeting, traffic police made a presentation on issues taken up with various stakeholder agencies, action taken and the status of proposed interventions. Officials said the progress achieved so far reflected the positive outcomes of coordinated efforts among the agencies, while also identifying areas that still require attention.The meeting concluded with everyone committing to work in close coordination to ensure timely completion of ongoing interventions and infrastructure projects, expeditious resolution of inter-agency issues and effective implementation of measures to improve traffic flow and mitigate congestion and waterlogging across the city.
