Law and order deteriorating, violent crimes on the rise: Kanimozhi

Thoothukudi: DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, while responding to the brutal murder of the woman, criticised the govt over the “deteriorating law-and-order situation” in the state, pointing to a persistent rise in murders, crimes against women and children, and drug-related offences.Speaking to reporters in Thoothukudi on Friday, Kanimozhi expressed deep distress over the frequent reporting of violent crimes across the state. She said crimes continue unabated without adequate measures from the govt to curb them.Criticising the govt’s handling of public safety and law and order, she noted that despite official assurances of security, people across the state increasingly experience an environment of insecurity, fear and vulnerability. She also questioned the effectiveness of police responses, particularly in sensitive cases involving missing children and women, and accused the govt of failing to take decisive action against perpetrators.Expressing shock and outrage over the horrific midnight murder of the woman, the attack on her husband and son and the abduction of her minor daughters by an armed gang, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has urged the govt to guarantee absolute safety for people across the state. In a post on X on Friday, Anbumani said the brutal attack was the result of a previous enmity between the family and a person named Gnanapragasam. When two parties have known enmity, the local police must monitor the situation and prevent it from escalating into crimes, including murder. Police have failed to discharge that responsibility, he said.“Ensuring the safety of the people is the fundamental responsibility of the govt and the police. If a family cannot feel safe sleeping in their home at night, people cannot live in peace. The govt must take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the people across the state,” he said.
