Hyderabad: A day after a newly-wed couple was found dead at their home in Kukatpally, police are now probing a possible homicide (murder) angle in the death of the woman after she was found dead with her husband at their residence, initially suspected to be a case of suicide.Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy said the man, Yemjala Karthik, 28, was found dead by suicide, but the circumstances surrounding the death of his wife, Yerramalla Manjula, 27, remained unclear. “We suspect that the woman may not have died by suicide. We are examining the possibility that she could have been killed before the man took the extreme step. However, this will be confirmed only after forensic reports are out,” the ACP said.Police said viscera samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and the exact cause of death would be established based on the report. Officials added that multiple angles were being investigated. The ACP said a minor quarrel related to food was reported between the couple and family members prior to the incident, but clarified that no history of prior disputes or animosity was established so far. “The investigation is at a preliminary stage right now,” he said.Police said they faced challenges in accessing the couple’s mobile phones, which were password-protected. “We are yet to retrieve call records and messages, which could help establish the sequence of events,” an official said.On Saturday, the couple, who got married in March, were found dead at their residence after Karthik’s brother, who lived in the same building, broke open the door when they did not respond. They were shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.A case was registered under Section 194 (suspicious death) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). “If it is confirmed that the cause of her death is murder, only then we will alter the sections,” the official said. Further investigation into the incident was underway.
