Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday wrote to chief minister A Revanth Reddy, alleging that Govt Order 7 is a calculated move to weaken Telangana’s fee reimbursement scheme. He said it would inflict ‘grave injustice’ on nearly 14 lakh students from BC, SC, ST and minority communities, and demanded that the order be withdrawn and the pending fee reimbursement dues be paid immediately. In his letter, KTR said the order undermines a welfare mechanism that has long supported higher education for economically weaker sections. Highlighting the financial burden at the centre of the dispute, KTR claimed that fee reimbursement arrears of nearly 10,000 crore have been pending for more than two-and-a-half years, impacting over 2,500 educational institutions. He said the delay has placed colleges under severe strain, while students are being denied certificates and facing hurdles in continuing their education. He accused the govt of avoiding a full settlement by relying on committees, reviews and piecemeal fund releases. KTR said the fee reimbursement scheme, launched during the tenure of former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy and later expanded in Telangana under K Chandrasekhar Rao, played a vital role in widening educational access.KTR also flagged the state of residential institutions, blaming the govt for administrative apathy. He warned that the BRS would intensify its agitation across the state if the dues are not released and GO 7 is not revoked.
