Kota: Kota Rural Police Saturday intercepted three separate drug consignments, seizing 417 kg of illegal poppy husk (doda chura), arresting five accused and impounding three vehicles. The combined value of the seized contraband and vehicles is estimated at Rs 1.12 crore.The seizures were made under Operation Route Clearance in the Chechat, Modak and Kanwas police station areas through coordinated operations by local police, the district special team (DST) and the cyber cell.In the first operation under Chechat police station, police recovered 257.6 kg of poppy husk from an unregistered car during vehicle checking near the 8-lane expressway interchange flyover.

The vehicle, coming from Madhya Pradesh, attempted to evade the checkpoint by changing direction after spotting the police. However, officers chased and intercepted it, arresting Kanhaiya Lal (31) and Mohammad Vikas Shah (32), both residents of Madhya Pradesh.In the second operation near the Nayagaon tunnel on the 8-lane expressway under Modak police station, police seized 119 kg of poppy husk from a car travelling from Madhya Pradesh. The two occupants, Satnam Singh alias Satta (35) of Punjab, and Ranjit Singh alias Rinku (33) of Haryana were arrested.In the third seizure, police recovered 40.39 kg of poppy husk from a car at the Dara-Kanwas T-junction on NH-52 under Kanwas police station and arrested Nirvair Singh (45) of Punjab. The driver allegedly tried to break through the police barricade, but officers blocked the route and intercepted the vehicle.Separate cases have been registered against the five accused at the Modak, Kanwas and Chechat police stations, and further investigation is underway.Police said one consignment was meant to be supplied to Merta in Nagaur district, while the other two were destined for Punjab.Kota Rural SP Sujit Shankar said police have intensified surveillance along key border highways to dismantle inter-state drug trafficking networks. He said investigations are underway to identify the main suppliers in Madhya Pradesh and the intended recipients in Rajasthan and Punjab.
