Kokrajhar protest over delay in road construction

Dhubri: People of Parbatjhara sub-division of Kokrajhar district held a protest on Wednesday at Khoraghat against the prolonged delay in construction of a 4.84km road from NH-17 to Shree Shree Maa Mahamaya Snan ghat temple for over three years.Protesters alleged that the work was allotted to M/S Kusember Construction of Guwahati in 2023 with sanctioning amount of Rs 5.60 crore and company was to start the work on March 3, 2024, but it has not yet started.Talking to TOI, former leader of All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union(Akrasu), Chandan Kumar Barman who led the protest, said the area is highly populace with mix community, has no other road but only this one which was lying in most dilapidated condition and beyond negotiable for many a year.“Moreover, pilgrims and devotees have to face a lot of inconveniences visiting the temple as this road leads to highly revered Shree Shree Maa Mahamaya Snanghat temple. Besides them, daily commuters and residents too have to face same situation daily during rainy season”, Barman alleged with deep resentment. If the work not started within a week then residents of this area would stage sit-in-strike at Khoraghat and block NH17 soon, Barman warned.
