KNC welcomes freshers to a journey of knowledge and belonging

Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi, organised a week-long foundation programme, Deeksharambh, from August 10-14 for first year students. Based on the college’s motto, ‘There is no salvation without knowledge’, the programme introduced students to the college’s academic environment and values.The first day, themed ‘Delhi is a Safe Place’ featured S.I Delhi Police, Kiran Sethi, a Taekwondo expert, who sensitised students about personal safety and shared self-defence tips. Day two focused on ‘Human Values & Mental Wellbeing’. Prof. Anirban Dash, Director, National Mission for Manuscripts, highlighted India’s rich script heritage and the importance of preserving its intellectual traditions. A major focus of his lecture was on developing ‘Vivek’, the ability to distinguish what is right from what is wrong.On day three, Prof. Pavitra Bhardwaj, Principal, welcomed all the newcomers and their parents and apprised students of the culture, core values and facilities offered by the college. She said, “This journey is uniquely yours. There will be moments of triumph, there will be moments of challenges. Embrace both alike.” Concluding the day, Lakshya the theatre society staged a skit on anti-ragging.Talking about her experience, Sandhya Goel, a first year student said, “I was nervous at the beginning, but the seniors and teachers have been so nice and helpful. I had a lovely experience.” Day four featured the ‘Nirog Nari’ campaign on women’s health, led by Ridhima Foundation’s Founder and lead physician Dr. Deepika. She enlightened the students on various aspects of women’s health and preventive care. The concluding day focused on buddy mentoring providing first year students with an opportunity to interact closely with senior students. Adding to the experience, the college also organised a Cultural Fair, where different co-curricular and extra-curricular societies were introduced. As the foundation week came to an end, a new academic chapter began for KNC’s freshers.
