Hyderabad: Out of the five names provided for Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s new party, the Election Commission (EC) has granted initial approval for the name ‘Telangana Rakshana Sena’ (TRS). The final approval will be granted after considering any objections from other parties.Announcing this on X, Kavitha said: “Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), it is! We will relentlessly work to serve and protect the people of Telangana, as we have done in the last two decades as Telangana Jagruthi. We received a letter of approval from the Election Commission in person. I would like to thank the EC and commit to abide by the rules and regulations. In Jan 2026, following standard EC protocol, we submitted five name choices, and the Election Commission officially granted our third choice.“Recently, at a meeting held on April 25 in Medchal, Kavitha announced the party name as ‘Telangana Rashtra Sena’. According to sources, Telangana Praja Jagruti, Telangana Jagruti, Telangana Rakshana Sena, Telangana Praja Shakti, and Telangana Rastra Jagruti were submitted to the EC as options.Speaking to TOI regarding the latest developments, a senior BRS leader stated, “I don’t think people are very curious about the new party. Technically, anyone can choose any name, provided it is not the same as another party. There can be many abbreviations. If we wanted to change the name of BRS to TRS, nothing could technically prevent us, because the full names of the parties are different.”Interestingly, a person named Tupakula Balarangam has written to the Election Commission regarding Kavitha announcing her party name as TRS. He stated that although Kavitha’s party name is different from his party’s name, which is Telangana Rajya Samithi (TRS), confusion will arise among voters since she will be using the same abbreviation. Balalingam mentioned that his party, TRS, with the symbol of a cylinder, contested in 10 assembly segments during the 2023 elections.
