Shimla: Himachal Pradesh students from Classes VI to VIII will study the state’s history, geography, economy, dialects, culture and political system under a revamped curriculum to be introduced from the 2027-28 academic session. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by education minister Rohit Thakur on Thursday to revise school textbooks and give students a deeper understanding of Himachal Pradesh’s identity and heritage. The revised books will cover the state’s geography, society, folk traditions, economy and governance, besides tracing its history from the pre-historic period to statehood. They will also include chapters on local dialects, traditional cuisine, freedom fighters, Kargil heroes, soldiers and contemporary issues.“The revised curriculum will provide students with authentic and engaging information about Himachal Pradesh, strengthen their analytical skills and deepen their understanding of their cultural roots,” Thakur said, adding that it would also help students preparing for competitive examinations. The minister said the factual content for the new textbooks would be finalised within a month. A committee headed by him, comprising officials of the education department, Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education, SCERT and academic experts, has been constituted to oversee the revision and ensure timely implementation.
