Guwahati: Residents of Nilachal Hill, home to the Kamakhya Temple, launched a community-funded relief drive for 500 flood-affected families in Assam’s Sivasagar district on Thursday.The relief initiative was organised in association with the Kamakhya Devalaya Management Committee, with Sivasagar-based NGO Meta Research Foundation helping identify families most in need across Demow, Nazira and Sivasagar Sadar areas.“This initiative is entirely driven by the hearts and hands of the people of Nilachal Hill. Every single piece of relief material was contributed by our local youth, devotees, and residents to stand firmly with our brothers and sisters in Sivasagar during their hour of tragedy,” said Prabir Sarma, media coordinator and representative for ground-level coordination and beneficiary selection.The relief package includes 4,000 kg of cattle feed, water purifiers, phenyl, bleaching powder and handwash, besides new clothes and footwear.Each beneficiary family was also provided household essentials including gas stoves, pressure cookers, plastic mugs and stainless-steel utensils.Sangbad Prabah, a multilingual communication platform, coordinated with the temple management committee and Meta Research Foundation for beneficiary identification and distribution.“When the floodwaters took our homes, we felt lost. Receiving these practical gifts directly from the devotees feels like Mother Kamakhya herself has reached out to protect us,” a Demow resident said
