Mumbai: Justice Sunil Shukre of the Bombay high court was administered oath of office as the lokayukta on Tuesday by governor Jishnu Dev Verma.Maharashtra was the first state to introduce the concept of lokayukta by passing the Maharashtra Lokayukta and Upa-Lokayuktas Act in 1971. The state govt moved to strengthen the institution further by introducing updated legislation like the Maharashtra Lokayukta Bill in 2022 to bring the chief minister and cabinet ministers under its direct purview.The tenure of the lokayukta is for five years.
