Dibrugarh: Jorhat police on Monday intensified their crackdown on motorcycle stunt riding and illegal vehicle modifications and destroyed 71 silencer pipes seized from motorcycles during an enforcement drive in the town.The seized silencers, which police said were used to produce excessively loud noise, were crushed with a road roller as part of the enforcement action. Police said the drive was aimed at curbing stunt riding and reducing noise pollution in different parts of Jorhat.According to police, motorcycles fitted with modified exhaust systems have been found at several locations in the town, with some riders allegedly using the vehicles for stunt riding and other forms of dangerous riding. Officials said such activities create excessive noise and pose a risk to other road users.A traffic police officer said the action was part of a continuing enforcement drive against illegal modifications and dangerous riding.“Modified silencers are not permitted, and the excessive noise generated by them causes considerable inconvenience to the public. Stunt riding also puts the lives of riders and other road users at risk. We will continue enforcement against such violations,” the official said.Police said the silencers were crushed to prevent their reuse and to send a message to motorcycle owners who install unauthorised exhaust systems.Police also urged motorcycle owners not to make unauthorised alterations to their vehicles and to comply with motor vehicle regulations.Officials said enforcement would continue at different locations across Jorhat, particularly in areas where stunt riding and the use of modified motorcycles have been reported.
