Gurgaon: A 19-year-old man was allegedly duped of Rs 30 lakh under the pretext of landing a job in Indian Railways through the sports quota.The complainant, Vicky, a resident of Sadar Bahadurgarh, said his son, Deepanshu, met the accused, Satish alias Srinivas, during a kabaddi tournament in Mahendragarh in Oct last year.Satish (45) and his associates, Sapna and Sunil, allegedly promised him a job and lured him into paying Rs 30 lakh in several instalments between Nov 2025 and Jan 2026.The accused posed as genuine recruiters, handing over forged appointment letters, conducting sports trials and collecting money for medical examinations and training.However, when Satish stopped responding and there was no sign of the promised job, Deepanshu realised that he was cheated and approached the Bhondsi police station on April 17.Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered under sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly); 336(3) (forgery); 338, 340 (forging critical documents) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS.Satish, a resident of Beri village in Mahendragarh, and his associate Sapna were later arrested from MG Road on July 1.Police said that during interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime and disclosed that they had conspired to cheat the man.Upon verification, it was found that Satish is a habitual offender and is involved in two cases registered in Mahendragarh for cheating, offences under the Haryana Public Examination Act, criminal intimidation and assault. He also faces a case under the POCSO Act and other criminal provisions in Rajasthan’s Sikar, police said.Gurgaon police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said a local court remanded Sapna and Satish to four and 11 days in police custody, respectively.
