Jaipur: Nearly 15 months after the transport department shifted bus operations from Narayan Singh Circle, and barely three months after traffic police diverted Transport Nagar-bound buses via Shanti Path, JDA Circle has emerged as an unauthorised bus halt, choking one of the city’s busiest junctions.

Private buses are now routinely stopping at the JDA Circle crossing to pick up and drop off passengers, blocking traffic entering Shanti Path from JLN Marg and forcing motorists to wait behind private buses stopping at the junction.Traffic personnel alleged that some private operators have informal understanding with senior officials in the Jaipur commissionerate, allowing them to operate from the junction despite it not being a designated bus stop.

“We were told to allow buses of a few selected private operators to pick up and drop off passengers at this crossing,” a traffic official alleged.Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Yogesh Goyal denied that any permission was granted for boarding or alighting anywhere between JLN Marg and Tila No. 7 on Shanti Path. “All buses must use designated stops at Transport Nagar. We have been taking action whenever complaints are received,” he said.This correspondent observed private buses picking up passengers at JDA Circle during peak hours over the past few days. Commuters said the practice routinely worsens evening congestion. Several passengers said bus operators instructed them at the time of booking to board from JDA Circle instead of the designated Transport Nagar stop.The situation mirrors the chaos that followed the April 1, 2025, relocation of the Narayan Singh Circle bus stand. Although the govt directed buses to operate only from designated bays at Transport Nagar, a makeshift boarding point soon emerged at Trimurti Circle. Police launched a crackdown after a TOI report on June 26, 2025, highlighted the violation.Amit Parnami, a Jawahar Nagar resident, said buses have been blocking the turn towards Shanti Path for days, worsening congestion at an already busy intersection. “I did not understand the logic of shifting the Narayan Singh Circle bus stand and declaring the corridor a no-parking zone. Now an official e-rickshaw stand has come up there even though the stretch is a notified no-parking zone,” Parnami said.
