Agartala: The additional sessions court in North Tripura sentenced a Jammu & Kashmir resident to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment in a drug trafficking case.The convict, identified as Manjoor Ahamed Chachi, was also fined Rs 1.5 lakh. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in connection with a case registered in 2022 under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of Feb 1, 2022, during a special vehicle inspection at Churaibari Naka Point, along the Assam border. A truck, going out of the state, was stopped, and during the search, 260 kg of dry cannabis was recovered from a hidden chamber of the truck.The truck driver, Manjoor Ahamed Chachi, was immediately arrested and charged under the NDPS Act provisions. Following an extensive investigation, a charge sheet was filed in July 2022. After a long trial, additional sessions judge found him guilty and awarded imprisonment.
