New Delhi: Central Delhi is likely to witness traffic congestion and diversions over the next two days due to Janmashtami celebrations and other scheduled events, with restrictions expected on several key roads in New Delhi and central districts.A Shobha Yatra in Paharganj on Sept 3 is expected to draw over 2,000 devotees, along with raths and jhankis. The procession will begin at 10 am, and traffic is likely to remain slow on Rani Jhansi Road, DBG Road, Chelmsford Road, Panchkuian Road and adjoining stretches.Police have advised commuters to avoid DBG Road and Ajmal Khan Road between 1 pm and 7 pm and use alternative routes, such as Faiz Road and Minto Road.Several routes in New Delhi district and adjoining areas are also likely to be closed or regulated on Sept 4 due to Janmashtami arrangements. Police have advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.In a separate advisory for Sept 3, traffic police said special arrangements would be in place around Mahatma Gandhi Smriti Sthal at Rajghat for a scheduled programme. Traffic may be regulated or diverted at ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shantivan Chowk, Rajghat DTC Depot and IP Flyover, depending on traffic conditions and operational requirements.Restrictions are likely on stretches between ITO Chowk and Delhi Gate on BSZ Marg; Shantivan Chowk and IP Flyover; Delhi Gate and N S Marg via Asaf Ali Road; Shantivan Chowk and Nishad Raj Marg; Guru Nanak Chowk and Ranjeet Singh Flyover; and Rajghat DTC Depot and Ring Road Bypass.Meanwhile, special arrangements have also been made at Laxmi Narain Mandir (Birla Mandir) for Sept 4. Entry will be restricted to Mandir Marg, while vehicular movement on parts of Mandir Marg and adjoining roads will be curtailed to facilitate pedestrian movement.
