Jaipur police busts another illegal firecracker unit

Jaipur: Days after an explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in Jaipur’s Kho Nagoriyan area killed eight people, police have busted another unauthorised firecracker storage facility in the locality and arrested its operator, officials said on Wednesday.The raid was carried out by a team from Kho Nagoriyan police station at a shop in Shankar Vihar Colony, where a large quantity of firecrackers and explosive material was allegedly being stored without a licence, police said.The accused, identified as 24-year-old Harshyot Singh, a resident of Shankar Vihar Colony, was arrested and booked under relevant provisions of the Explosives Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police said the action was part of an intensified crackdown launched across Jaipur following the June 9 blast.According to officials, the Kho Nagoriyan police conducted extensive raids in around 250 localities and sealed nearly 20 illegal godowns being used to store firecrackers, cartons and plastic material during the ongoing drive.Jaipur East DCP Ranjita Sharma said police have been carrying out regular inspections and searches to identify illegal storage and sale of firecrackers and explosive substances. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to encourage residents to report such activities, she said.The June 9 explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in Kho Nagoriyan had triggered concerns over unauthorised storage of explosive materials in residential areas, leading to intensified enforcement measures by the Jaipur police.
