ITC employee, pillion rider die as water tanker rams into bike in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: Two persons were killed after their motorcycle was allegedly hit by a water tanker in Sector 18 on Thursday morning. The two were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead, a police officer said.Twenty-five-year-old Saurabh Vishwakarma worked as a management information systems executive with ITC. Saurabh had picked up a Rapido ride shortly before the accident. Pillion rider Divyansh from Bhopal, whom he picked up, worked with a private company in the city, police said. According to Saurabh’s family, the driver fled the spot after the tanker ran over the bike. A case had been registered against the unidentified driver under relevant sections at Sector 17-18 police station. “We are checking the CCTV footage,” the officer said.Saurabh, a native of Madhya Pradesh, had been living in the Mollahera area for more than 15 years. In the morning, he used to pick up rides on Rapido before going to the office, Danish said, adding the “sole breadwinner” of his family had been working for the past four to five years.Saurabh’s friend Irfan said he received a call from his mobile phone around 9am. “The person who called said Saurabh had met with an accident near Motherson company. We reached the hospital. However, his phone has been missing since the accident occurred. I have been trying to call it, but it is switched off,” he said, adding, “His father had died earlier, while his two sisters are married.”
