Jaipur: Over 300 students from 28 prestigious schools of Jaipur enthusiastically participated in the ‘WAVES-2026’ Inter-School Swimming Championship held on Tuesday at Gyan Vihar School in Malviya Nagar, showcasing their swimming talent. Throughout the day, the swimming pool area resounded with the enthusiasm of the athletes, the applause of the spectators, and the thrilling matches.The programme was inaugurated by Director Kanishk Sharma by opening the meet.Chief guest, Dronacharya Awardee, internationally renowned Indian boxing coach Sagarmal Dhayal, while encouraging the players, said that “Sports is not just a medium of victory or defeat, but a school of discipline, self-confidence, courage and building an excellent personality. It is only through continuous practice and determination that players achieve success at national and international level.”Director Kanishk Sharma welcomed the participants, stating that Gyan Vihar always places equal importance on sports and co-curricular activities for the all-round development of students. Healthy competition is the foundation for excellent performance.

Principal Dr Ritwij Gaur welcomed all the participating schools and said that such competitions develop sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and self-confidence in students. He congratulated all the winners and participants.In the competition, 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre butterfly, 50-metre backstroke, 50-metre breaststroke and 4x50m freestyle relay events were organised in two categories – boys and girls.The participants in each event gave a brilliant performance and thrilled the audience.The overall championship trophy was awarded to St Xavier’s School on the basis of best performance.

Winners of major eventsIn 50m freestyle Under-17 boysAtulya from Tagore International School stood first, Arnav from St Xavier’s stood second and Aditya Sharma from St Xavier’s stood third.In freestyle 50m girls, Aadhya from MGD School was first, Kiara from MGD School was second and Santhani from St Xavier School was third.50m backstroke: Under-19 boysFirst was Kartik Agarwal from St Xavier’s, second was Ranveer from Wardhaman International School and third was Naveen Soni from Tagore International School.50m backstroke: Under-19 girlsFirst was Lakshita Singh from MGD School, second was Sanvi from MGD School and third was Priyana from JPGS School.At the end of the programme, the winning players and teams were honoured with medals and certificates.The Fair Play Award went to MGD School and the Most Valuable Player Award went to Tagore International School.
