Gurgaon: Haryana govt has sought an audit of existing facilities in 250 govt PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) senior secondary schools across the state. This marks the first step towards upgrading these schools into model institutions under the Centre’s scheme.The school education department has directed district education authorities to submit detailed reports on 23 infrastructure parameters, indicating whether each facility is available or unavailable in these schools. Officials said the exercise aims to identify infrastructure gaps and prepare a roadmap for future development works.Officials said the selected schools will function under the PM SHRI identity, with the proposed infrastructure upgrades intended to improve both the academic and physical environment.According to the department’s directions, the audit will cover the availability of principal rooms, headmaster rooms, staff rooms, classrooms, computer laboratories, science laboratories, libraries, mid-day meal stores, kitchen sheds, playgrounds, boundary walls, drinking water facilities, rainwater harvesting systems, ramps for children with disabilities, boys’ and girls’ toilets, separate toilets for children with special needs, sanitary pad vending machines, electricity connections, smart classrooms, ICT laboratories, Atal Tinkering Labs, STEM laboratories and other essential infrastructure.A standard reporting format has been circulated to all districts, and officials have been directed to furnish accurate information so that future infrastructure works can be planned based on the specific requirements of each school.Gurgaon has nine PM SHRI schools, including Govt Senior Secondary School Carterpuri; Govt Senior Secondary School Budhera; Govt Senior Secondary School Mokalwas; and Govt Senior Secondary School Noorgarh.Among the districts, Hisar has the highest number of PM SHRI schools with 17 institutions, followed by Sonipat (14), Fatehabad and Bhiwani (13 each), Ambala, Karnal and Mahendragarh (12 each), and Rohtak (11). Jind, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Nuh and Rewari have 10 schools each, while Sirsa also has nine. Dadri, Palwal and Yamunanagar have eight schools each, and Faridabad has seven.Education department officials said the reports submitted by districts will be verified before the next phase of infrastructure development begins, to bring the selected govt schools in line with the standards envisaged under the PM SHRI scheme.
