IMD forecasts heavy rain in several districts of Tamil Nadu after peak summer spell
Tamil Nadu braces for heavy showers across over 15 districts as the intense summer heat concludes.

CHENNAI: Heavy rain is expected across more than 15 districts in Tamil Nadu following the end of the peak summer spell, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday. The peak phase of summer, known as ‘Agni Natchathiram’, lasted from May 4 to 28. With its conclusion, weather conditions are expected to shift significantly across the state. A latest bulletin from the IMD said heatwave conditions persisted till Thursday, with temperatures crossing 38 degrees Celsius in more than 10 districts, including Chennai. The IMD has now forecast heavy rainfall in districts such as Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Nilgiris, Karur, Erode, Namakkal, Tirupattur, Tiruppur, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri over the next 24 hours starting Friday. It also indicated a gradual fall in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from May 31. In the last 24 hours, Neyyoor in Kanyakumari recorded the highest rainfall at six cm, followed by Avinashi in Tiruppur district, which registered four cm.
