Varanasi: Manager of an illegally operated madrassa `Madarsatul Nishan Niswan’, Anis (85), was arrested by Kotwali police on charges of embezzlement of govt funds on Wednesday. SIT probe found Anis was siphoning govt funds by uploading fake records on the madrassa portal. He was absconding, hence, cash reward of Rs 25,000 was announced on information about him.Azamgarh SP Anil Kumar said Kotwali police were alerted about Anis, native of Jaunpur district, being spotted at the UPSRTC stand and they arrested him from there.During verification of madrassas listed on the portal in 2024-24, large number was found operating against prescribed norms. When UP Special Investigation Team started investigation, Madarsatul Nishan Niswan Azamgarh, run by Anis with ID-191100693, was found to be illegal.Investigation exposed fake information about the building, number of students and other important details were uploaded on the madrassa portal. The practice of embezzling govt funds and grants was detected after which FIR was lodged on charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery.
