Hyderabad: IDP Education has announced that the IELTS exam in India will transition entirely to a computer-based format from Sept. The paper-based version of the test will be available only until the end of Aug.Candidates who wish to take the paper-based IELTS can register for the final three test dates on July 25, Aug 6, and Aug 22.According to IDP, the computer-based IELTS will retain the same format, question types, difficulty level, and scoring system as the paper-based test. The shift is expected to provide candidates with greater flexibility in choosing test dates while enabling faster result processing.From Sept, candidates will have two testing options. In the first, listening, reading, and writing sections are completed on a computer, while the speaking test continues to be conducted face-to-face with an IELTS examiner.The second option, IELTS on computer (writing on paper), allows candidates to complete the listening and reading sections on a computer while completing the writing section on paper. The speaking test will remain unchanged in this format as well.The computer-based test will also include features such as an on-screen timer, easier navigation between questions, and the ability to review and edit responses during the writing section.IELTS is jointly owned by IDP Education, the British Council, and Cambridge Assessment English. The test is widely used by students and professionals from the Telugu states who plan to study, work, or migrate abroad. It is accepted by more than 12,000 organisations worldwide.
