Hyderabad: The city’s cumulative monsoon rainfall deficit stood at 18 per cent as of Monday, five percentage points higher than Telangana’s overall shortfall of 13 per cent, according to the Telangana rainfall report.The district received 347.2 mm rainfall from June 1 till Monday against the normal 422.7 mm for the period. Despite the shortfall, Hyderabad remains in the official normal rainfall category as the normal range extends from 19 per cent excess to 19 per cent deficit.Hyderabad received 5.1 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30am on Monday against the normal 10.4 mm, resulting in a 51 per cent deficit for the day. The district has recorded 30 rainy days since June 1.The wider Hyderabad urban region also remained below normal. The GHMC, Cantonment and municipal corporation areas received an average 8.6 mm rainfall on Monday against the normal 9 mm. Their cumulative rainfall stood at 344.4 mm against the normal 415.7 mm, a deficit of 17 per cent.Rainfall in neighbouring districts showed a mixed pattern. Rangareddy received 377.9 mm against the normal 356.2 mm, recording a 6 per cent excess. Sangareddy received 453.1 mm against 457.6 mm, a marginal 1 per cent deficit. Medchal Malkajgiri remained 31 per cent deficient, with 278.5 mm against the normal 405.9 mm.Across Telangana, rainfall stood at 457.6 mm against the normal 524.8 mm till Monday, a 13 per cent deficit. Aug has been particularly weak, with the state receiving 118.3 mm against the normal 167.1 mm, a 29 per cent deficit.The highest rainfall on Monday was recorded at Shankarampet (A) in Medak at 110 mm, followed by Nizampet and Sirgapoor in Sangareddy at 80.5 mm and 77.8 mm respectively. Vikarabad’s Yelal received 77.2 mm.
