A teacher was terminated after assigning religious homework to a Hindu student

HYDERABAD: Amid the controversy over alleged ‘Kalma’ homework at a Hyderabad school, police on Thursday revealed that the Class 2 section at Success School had 25 students, including only one Hindu student, while the remaining 24 were Muslims.The class comprised 25 students, including only one Hindu student.Deputy commissioner of Police (DCP), Charminar Zone, Khare Kiran Prabhakar, said, “Yesterday, in Success School, an incident came to our notice. In this school, one lady teacher wrote that everyone has to read Kalma as the homework.”“Out of 25 students, all were the Muslim students only but one Hindu student was there. It was a complete violation of the education policy as well as the school policy.”“The parents of the Hindu students came in the evening to the police station as well as the school. The school management has taken action and the MD of the Success School has given a statement and the teacher has been terminated,” he added further.“Parents are satisfied that action has been taken in this case. Police is monitoring the situation. No one should spread any kind of Hindu-Muslim hatred or any kind of communalism. Please do not entertain any kind of rumours. The school management and parents are on the same side,” he said.“For the protest here, over 30 people were taken into preventive custody and the situation is peaceful. Parents have given a statement to the police as well that they do not have any complaint against the management. So we have not registered any kind of complaint regarding this issue. If any kind of further complaint comes to us, we’ll take legal opinion based on that,” he further said.Photographs of the student’s homework diary went viral on social media on Thursday.The diary pages, dated July 11, allegedly show the homework entries “Read 1,2 Kalma” and “Read Surah Fateha” under the subject “Deeniyath”, while other entries on the same pages are listed under subjects such as Math and Computer.The homework entries also allegedly bear the teacher’s signatures on both pages.The controversy centres on teacher Shaik Aisha Parveen of Success, The School in Hyderabad’s Sayeedabad, who was terminated.In its termination letter, the school said Parveen had been permanently barred from seeking employment at any institution under the Success Group of Education Institutions.Meanwhile, BJP workers protested outside the school, demanding action in the case.Police detained BJP leader Andela Sriramulu Yadav, advocate and BJP leader Karuna Sagar, along with several other party workers during the protest.Addressing reporters before being detained, Karuna Sagar questioned why no FIR had been registered and demanded action against the school’s principal.
