Hyderabad: Claiming that a rape-accused IPS trainee failed to cooperate during police custody, the Hyderabad police have sought an additional two days of custody to recover crucial evidence. The court posted the matter for arguments on Tuesday and remanded the accused to judicial custody at Chanchalguda prison.After completing the initial two-day police custody, Attapur police produced the 33-year-old offender, who is charged with raping a co-trainee, before the local court at Upparapally in Rajendranagar. Investigators told the court that they were unable to recover the accused’s iPhone, believed to contain key evidence, as he allegedly did not cooperate during questioning.According to investigators, a digital copy of a purported suicide note written by the accused in the third week of July, after the FIR was registered, mentions that he had recorded videos of the victim on his iPhone.“We only have a digital copy of the suicide note, and the accused did not disclose the whereabouts of the original. We need additional custody to recover both the iPhone and the original suicide note,” an investigator said.The defence opposed the request for extended custody. The accused also alleged before the court that he was intimidated by police officials during interrogation.The prosecution denied the allegations, stating that investigators strictly followed the court’s directions during the remand period. It also informed the court that the accused’s medical examination report had been submitted.After hearing both sides, the court adjourned the matter until Tuesday.
