HYDERABAD: A sub-inspector (SI) attached with the Hyderabad police has been booked for allegedly allowing his six-and-half-year-old granddaughter to drive a car on the Gandhamguda–Bairagiguda road.After a video of the incident went viral on social media, the Narsingi police launched a probe and identified the SI as Pujari Thirupathi. A case was registered against him under Sections 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the BNS and relevant provision of the MV Act. He was traced based on the vehicle’s registration number.Video goes viralThe video shows the SI seated in the front passenger seat while allowing the minor girl, in the driver’s seat, to steer the vehicle. On noticing this, a few motorists stopped the car and confronted him over his actions. During the argument, the girl could be heard saying, “My grandfather is an SI”. The SI was also caught on camera arguing with those who questioned him. “I am in control of the vehicle. This is an automatic vehicle,” the SI is heard saying in the video.The confrontation led to traffic jam on the stretch. Later, the SI got out of the passenger seat and moved to driver’s seat. When contacted earlier, Cyberabad police said they were verifying the authenticity of the video. It was only after the footage went viral that the police identified the SI and initiated action.
