Hyderabad: The tricolour turned the city streets into vibrant stages of celebration on Independence Day as people came together to mark the spirit of freedom, unity and patriotism.Across the city, rallies, community gatherings and cultural events brought people out in large numbers. Schoolchildren marched with flags, youngsters took to the roads on foot and on bicycles, while families and residents joined neighbourhood celebrations, creating a festive atmosphere from the city’s bustling roads to its quieter colonies.In Shaikpet, school students participated in a spirited Tiranga rally, marching together with a massive 500-metre-long tricolour. As the students moved together, the stretch was transformed into a sweeping sea of saffron, white and green, adding colour and energy to the celebrations.The celebrations in Surya Nagar Colony near Jubilee Hills took on a strong community focus, with thousands of residents from surrounding colonies gathering to mark the occasion. A mega health camp offered free medical consultations, health services and medicines, while sports and cultural programmes added to the festive spirit.At Tank Bund, students, families and automobile dealers joined the celebrations, carrying the national flag as they moved along the Hussain Sagar stretch. The lakeside setting added to the visual spectacle, with the tricolour becoming a common thread connecting participants across age groups.The city’s cycling community celebrated in its own distinctive way near the solar cycling track at Narsingi along the Outer Ring Road. A large group of cyclists took part in a Tiranga cycling rally, riding together with flags and turning the route into a moving display of patriotism.The day also carried a solemn note at Veerula Sainik Smarak at the Gen KV Krishna Rao Parade Ground in Secunderabad, where a wreath-laying ceremony was held to honour the nation’s fallen soldiers. A contingent of officers and soldiers, dressed in ceremonial uniforms and adorned with medals of distinction, participated in the ceremony alongside a military band.
