Ahmedabad: With the impact of Western Disturbance weakening across parts of India, temperatures have begun rising again in Gujarat, with Ahmedabad city recording a maximum of 41°C on Tuesday — 0.8 degrees above normal. The city had seen relatively stable temperatures of around 40°C over the past few days. The minimum temperature also remained above normal at 26.8°C, higher by 1.7 degrees.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there was unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures over the next three days. However, a gradual increase of 2–3°C was expected thereafter. The IMD has also warned of hot and humid conditions prevailing in coastal areas of the state on April 24 and 25.Among other cities, Amreli recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.1°C, followed by 41°C in Kandla and Ahmedabad, 40.7°C in Rajkot, 40.5°C in Gandhinagar, and 40.3°C in Surendranagar.Meanwhile, IMD director general Mrityunjay Mohapatra has indicated that Gujarat was likely to witness a higher than normal number of heatwave days this year. He noted that several regions across India, including parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Indo-Gangetic plains, are expected to experience above-normal heatwave conditions.“Certain regions are climatologically prone to high temperatures. For instance, areas like Vidarbha in Maharashtra typically record temperatures of 41–42°C during this period, while states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana experience temperatures rising to 40–44°C by May,” Mohapatra said, urging preparedness for intense heat in the coming weeks.
