Times News NetworkChandigarh: Tricity residents can expect gradual relief from the heat, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms and light rain over the next five days.On Saturday, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 37.9 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at 24.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. The city also received 0.4mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. Humidity levels remained high, peaking at 90% and causing discomfort despite a relatively mild morning.According to the IMD, partly cloudy skies with intermittent showers and thunderstorm activity are likely across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula from July 6 to July 10. Maximum temperature is expected to decline steadily from 38 degrees Celsius on Monday to 33 degrees Celsius by Friday. Minimum temperature is also likely to drop gradually from 25 degrees Celsius to 23 degrees Celsius during the same period.Officials said the rainfall and thunderstorm will provide much‑needed respite from the heat and humidity. However, residents have been advised to remain cautious of sudden gusty winds, lightning and brief spells of rain, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.
